Coldplay, Eminem, Beyonce and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are just the start of the list of superstars who have loaned tracks for the Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa CD. This is an effort to aid the charity Artists Project Earth (APE), the brainchild of Kenny Young who founded the aid organisation to raise awareness and funds for climate change projects and for natural disaster relief efforts. Since its beginning in2005, APE has helped fund more than 250 projects around the world. During the past few years, the Rhythms Del Mundo series has been released as RDM: Cuba, RDM:Classics, and RDM: Revival which all benefited human disaster projects.
Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa is aiming to fund reforestation projects and wetland conservation efforts, as well as aspiring to raise awareness of climate change. The CD features some high profile Western and African musicians to produce some really interesting African mixes of a number of contemporary hits. To record the African musicians, APE travelled to Africa tracking the musical sounds of Toumani Diabate, Bassekou Kouyate, Ali Farka Toure Band, and Rokia Traore.
